The NSW Royal Checklist
Everything a NSW car owner is supposed to remember, in one place. Our iOS app will soon track all of it per car and remind you like a well-mannered butler - until then, bookmark this page.
Every year, before rego
- Green slip (CTP) - compare prices on the official SIRA Green Slip Price Check before you buy; never auto-renew blind
- Pink slip (eSafety check) - required if the car is over 5 years old; book a month early, valid 6 months
- Rego renewal - after the green slip and pink slip are done (they transmit electronically)
- Comprehensive insurance - reprice it while you're at it; loyalty is rarely rewarded
Twice a year, ten minutes each
- Tyres - tread depth (1.5 mm legal minimum, replace well before), pressures, and the date code on the sidewall (5+ years old deserves scrutiny)
- All lights, wipers and washers - the most common pink slip failures are driveway-spottable
- Battery terminals and age - most last 3–5 years; a slow crank in winter is your warning
- Fluids - oil level and colour, coolant level, brake fluid colour
Ongoing
- Logbook service on schedule - stamped history protects resale value as much as the car
- Licence renewal date - it sneaks up every 5 years
- Toll account balance and correct plate registration
- Keep every receipt in one folder (paper or photos) - a documented car is worth more and argues better
Classic owners - the extras
- Club membership renewal - historic (club plate) rego is only valid while your club membership is current
- Historic vehicle log book - fill it in before the drive, not after; know your scheme's day limits
- Fuel goes stale - if the car sits for months, plan for it (stabiliser or fresh fuel before a proper run)
- Battery tender if garaged long-term, and move the car occasionally to keep seals and tyres honest
