BMW 3 Series: Still the One to Beat
♛♛♛♛

The benchmark sports sedan, and still the one to beat. Aspiration you can genuinely live with.

Every rival sedan for thirty years has been measured against the 3 Series, and in 2026 it is still the one setting the bar - another CarExpert Choice win to prove the point. Some benchmarks earn the title and keep it.

The G20 3 Series: rear-drive (or all-paw) balance, a range that runs from the frugal 320i through the plug-in 330e to the properly quick M340i, and the driving polish BMW built its name on.

Why you'll love it

  • It drives like the benchmark it is. Steering you can feel, a chassis that flatters, and just enough firmness to remind you it means it.
  • A cabin that feels special every day. Beautifully built, genuinely comfortable, and quietly luxurious without shouting.
  • A model for every mood. Sensible and economical, plug-in and clever, or fast and fabulous - same badge, your choice.
  • Prestige that holds its value and its dignity.

A few honest notes

The options list is where BMW works its magic, so choose thoughtfully and you will want for nothing. It rides on the firm side of plush - which is precisely the trade that makes it so good to drive.

What to pay in Australia

New, it opens in the mid-$70s driveaway and climbs through the range to the M340i beyond that. A well-kept used one with service history is one of the smarter ways into genuine prestige motoring.

Queen's verdict

Four crowns - the fifth is on the options list, where BMW traditionally keeps it. Specify thoughtfully and this is still the car the whole class copies, and the easiest prestige sedan to fall for. Aspiration that behaves itself on a Monday - the best kind.

Prices reflect the Australian market as of mid-2026 and move around - treat them as a compass, not a valuation. General guidance, not financial advice.
